When we want to find people to lead, it can be quite difficult to do. When we want to find our new leaders, we should be looking at the strengths and weaknesses of the people around us in our current team. You then want to think about what is missing at the moment. Once you can identify this, then you know the type of person required to fill any gap.

How to find these people?

To find the people to help lead in your school or organization, there are some really important questions you need to answer.

  • What do you want your school or organization to look like?
  • What do you want to achieve or what do you want this particular person to achieve?
  • Do you have everything you need to achieve this?
  • Do you already have suitable people or do you need to look further afield?

How do you know they will fit in your organization?

Your decisions should be evidence based. Look at their past achievements and most importantly, how they helped other people to contribute to get these results. These are your leaders who can help you close any gaps in your organization.

You will want to know how they took charge and how they got people on board the projects they led. Discuss the success of any project they led on but also discuss the challenges faced. Great leaders are resilient and self-aware enough that they have learnt from their mistakes. As an employer, make sure you recognize that their openness and honesty is not a sign of weakness, but of a person who shows integrity.
